August, 2025

Joe and Bonnie joined other members of ISCRM in an outreach event in Chehalis, WA where high school students from around the state came to learn about how the heart works! Students came together to form a human-powered “simulation” of ventricular contraction, pushing blood (balloons) out the aorta, and calculating ejection fractions!

Dr. Powers and Dr. Patrick Boyle (UW BioE) were awarded a 2025 Pilot Award from the UW Center for Translational Muscle Research to develop multiscale mechanical computational models of myocytes with defects in cytoskeletal mechanical coupling!

Joe & Liz traveled to the BioCAT Beamline at the synchrotron at Argonne National Laboratory to blast cardiac muscle with a high-powered X-ray laser beam!

HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to Eesha Murali for her acceptance to the M.D. Program at the UW Medical School! We’ll be sad to see Eesha leave our group, but can’t wait to see all of her future accomplishments as a physician! Congrats, Eesha!!
